Jackson-Triggs Reserve Sparkling

LCBO#: 217679
Price: $15.95
Made in: Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario
By: Jackson-Triggs Estate Wines
Year: 2017

5 years ago, we reviewed this sparkling under the name “Jackson-Triggs Méthode Cuve Close 2012”, and this is still a favourite for the price. As consistent as usual. Great bubbles, sparkling away, zapping in the mouth. A beautiful blend of Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir. Loads of well-balanced green apples all over. Just a nice dryness that is not over the top, making this very easy to drink. Again, the yeast is very well taken care of – as in not too tarty.

Kim Crawford Signature Reserve Fizz

LCBO#: 645960
Price: $29.95
Made in: Marlborough, New Zealand
By: Kim Crawford Wines
Year: 2013

After having Kim Crawford a few times before, and really liking their products, thought this would be the same. Unfortunately, it was not. This sparkling had too much yeast in it. In the nose, in the taste. The rest is fine. Mild apple scent. Flavours are a little more on the sourness side of things. Still, apples and the yeast lingers. Because of this, some tartiness. Much preferred the other Fizz wine we tried from Kim Crawford. And this one was part of the Vintages. Disappointing for the price.

Toso Brut Chardonnay

LCBO#: 570390
Price: $15.75
Made in: Mendoza, Argentina
By: Pascual Toso
ABV: 12%

A Argentina Brut Sparkling found in the Vintages at the LCBO. Fruity aromas of mostly apples with some hints of pears and yeast. This yeast is what stays on the tongue in the finish. Light tart. Milder fruitiness with the apples giving some nicely blended sourness. This also linger a little. Slightly crisp, but the fact that the yeast is just a little too strong, and the fruity notes not. This does not make this one a good one, but just above average.

Louis Bouillot Perle Noire Blanc de Noires Brut

LCBO#: 464776
Price: $16.95
Made in: France
By: Louis Bouillon
ABV: 11.5%

Had not done a sparkling review in a while, as summer was so busy. Found this French one at the LCBO, and thought this would be a nice start to fall 2019. Lots of apples in the nose, with mostly the green ones. Hints of yeast. This continues in the taste with a milder touch. Hints of honey, but not too sweet and definitely not syrupy. Lightly dry mouthfeel that makes this one go down nicely. Nothing out of bound, and would be very good on a warmer summer day.

Tawse Spark Limestone Ridge Organic Sparkling Riesling

LCBO#: 370361
Price: $20.95
Made in: Ontario, Canada
By: Tawse Winery
Year: 2016

This Ontarian sparkling gives out apple aromas with pear hints and lime. This last one maybe is the culprit for making the taste quite sour. This gives the mouthfeel a refreshing and crisp feel. A nice blend from the grapes giving apple notes. Light yeast lingers on the tongue. A special sour sparkling, but a nice all-around one. And the more and more I have this one, the more and more I am falling in love with it. So good !! Must put this on the list to visit when we go down visiting the Niagara region.

Bellissima Prosecco Brut

LCBO#: 548164
Price: $24.95
Made in: Veneto, Italy
By: United Spirits Inc

Read something about this bubbly being promoted by Christine Brinkley, but I guess being in Canada never heard about this. An Italian Sparkling with an eye-catching bottle. Aromas of the grapes gives out out fruitiness and mild sourness, with hints of apples and pears. Crisp mouthfeel which does get a little thick and tarty on the tongue. This is where my beef is with this one. Yeast does lingers. Raisin notes in the taste eventually appear. Not one I would have again, especially for the price. Sorry Christine.

LCBO#: 69831
Price: $97.95
Made in: Champagne, France
By: Agave LVMH
Year: 2009
ABV: 12%

Celebrating the end of 2018 with this Rosé, thanks to friends sharing this one. Clean pink colour with strawberry nose and hints of cherries and mild alcohol. The mouthfeel is pretty dry. Very mild taste of strawberries and yeast lingering. Some well-blended bitterness. Quite easy to drink with everything nicely balanced.

Mionetto Prosecco Prestige Collection

LCBO#: 483339
Price: $17.00
Made in: Veneto, Italy
By: Henkell & Sohnlein Sektkellereien
ABV: 11%

This Italian Prosecco has mostly fruitiness in the nose with the white grapes and apples. Lots of sweetness blended with hints vanilla. Flavours seems to be mostly on the dried raisins side of things. So, not as sweet. Just fruity. Seems like the raisins take over the apples and grapes in the nose as well. Light sourness in the finish. Nothing offensive, but nothing too prestigious.

Bouvet Crémant de Loire Excellence Brut

LCBO#: 303636
Price: $19.95
Made in: Loire, France
By: Bouvet-Ladubay

This Crémant de Loire is pretty much all apple notes for scent with hints of grape sourness and leather. The taste is also fruity with the apples and grapes. Nicely blended between the sweetness, mild sourness and light dryness. All well-balanced, but nothing crazy outstanding for this French bubbly. There are better Crémant out there for the under twenty dollars range.

Krone Borealis Vintage Cuvée Brut

LCBO#: 556654
Price: $18.95
Made in: Tulbagh, South Africa
By: Twee Jonge Gezellen
Year: 2016

This South African bubbly gives out freshly crushed apple aromas and hints of honey. After breathing, raisin notes come out with hints of brown sugar and yeast. The dried raisins really show in the taste, over the apple notes. The yeast is well-hidden, and the mouthfeel a little dry, a slight wet. Does not linger too, too long. Nothing offensive, but if you are not into the raisin butter tarts, you might not like this one. If you are into something different, this is for you.
