Celebrating the end of 2018 with this Rosé, thanks to friends sharing this one. Clean pink colour with strawberry nose and hints of cherries and mild alcohol. The mouthfeel is pretty dry. Very mild taste of strawberries and yeast lingering. Some well-blended bitterness. Quite easy to drink with everything nicely balanced.

Kim Crawford Small Parcels Fizz

Price: $29.95

Celebrating a big b-day, decided to try a pricier Sparkling, from a winery we like so far. Sour nose with citrus notes over the white grapes which seems on the sweet side, with hints of candy berries. The taste starts off with the sourness, going through the sugary grapes and finishes with a mix of dry mouthfeel, mild alcohol and tart from the yeast. The aftertaste is the weak spot here. The sweetness and sourness is good, but overall, not the best balanced Sparkling. Especially for the price. Gets better with time, releasing some nice apple notes.

Been cellaring this one for a while (or maybe we just forgot it). Looks like we can no longer get this one at the LCBO, but the bottle is easily recognizable from the past. Anyways, aromas of dark berries, especially cherries with notes of alcohol. Hints of wood seem to come out a little. Lots of berries in the taste with some plums, light sourness from the cherries, some mild tannins creating some tartiness. Even some smokiness. Not one I would cellar again, but still pretty good overall.

Price: $10.99 (US)
Made in: California
By: De Loach Vineyards
Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

This Californian Cabernet Sauvignon is sweet in the nose, with notes of alcohol and vanilla adding to the sweetness. The mouthfeel is pretty wet with light tannins. Hints of cherries and very faint tobacco. Goes down well with supper, but lacking the strong characters for this style.

KWV Cathedral Cellar Brut

LCBO#: 296426
Price: $16.95
Made in: Western Cape, South Africa
Varietal: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir

After popping the cork, a big orange aroma kicks in. The Sparkling smells quite close to orange juice. After a while, the orange notes disappear, and mild alcohol, yeast and citrus is all that is left. Not much taste as well. Light dryness with a touch of yeast in the finish. Hints of sourness. Overall, nothing offensive, but lacking much flavours, so not worth the price (as KWV wines are quite good for the price).
