Mumm Napa Cuvée M

20130331-160215.jpgMade in: California, USA

Aromas of sweet fruit like citrus. Peach-like flavours, sweet, but not excessive like muscato sparkling. Wood notes in the finish, but not oak-vanilla like. This is a well-balanced sparkling for those who like it on the mild sweet side.

Los Hermanos Cabernet Sauvignon

20130329-202921.jpgLCBO#: 292458
Price: $8.99
Made in: Napa, California
By: Beringer Vineyards
Varietal: Bornada

This Cabernet Sauvignon is vinted and bottled by Beringer. Sold at a Coop in Montpelier, VT. Smells decent with mild Cab Sauvignon notes, more on the berry side of things. The big problem is when you taste it. Way too sweet. The wet mouthfeel does not help either. Looks like the chart on the back label says this wine should be on the dry side, more than the sweet one. Nope. Not dry at all. No tannins found here. Nothing really off, just too damn sweet.

Argento Bonarda Mendoza 2012

20130325-200017.jpgLCBO#: 292458
Price: $9.95
Made in: Argentina
By: Argento Wine Company
Varietal: Bornada

Mild leather scent with dark berries. Wet mouthfeel with just a little tannins. Does get a bit dryer as you drink it. Blackberry taste with other light berries. Aromas of dates eventually come out, and some plum notes in the taste, hints of wood in the aftertaste. This Italian varietal is not so common here, so it’s a treat to have this one from Argentina. A really good wine for the price. Enjoyed with pasta.

Duran Gran Reserva Brut 2007

20130310-162319.jpgLCBO#: 299818
Price: $16.95
Made in: Spain
By: Ramon Canals Canals

This Spanish Sparkling is a blend of Xarel-Lo, Macabea, Parallada, Charbonnay grapes and aged on lees for 36 months. Big creamy-looking head with lots of apple aromas. Smell calms down. Taste starts off with a little sourness, then some wood shows up with the grapes finishing on hints of yeast that lingers. Not too bad, but still lacking some “umph” and not as well blended with all of those grape varieties.
