Trapiche Extra Brut

LCBO#: 262261
Price: $12.95
Made in: Argentina
By: Penaflor/Trapiche

This Argentinian Sparkling blends very well Chardonnay, Semillon and Malbec grapes. Yeasty nose at first, but the grapes come out with hints of apples. The mouthfeel is dry, but not extreme. Flavours are even milder, but much of the same as the aromas. Finish is short. All-in-all, this is a great Sparkling for the price. Classy looking bottle, light sourness in the mouth. Yep, we would buy more of this, anytime.

Trapiche Pure Malbec

LCBO#: 370924
Price: $15.95
Made in: Argentina
By: Penaflor/Trapiche
Year: 2016

A 100% Malbec Argentinian wine that seems pretty light at first, but shows balls after breathing. Sour cherry aromas with the grapes and hints of leather. The mouthfeel is pretty thin, but a nice soft dryness in the finish helps. Light vanilla, caramel does come out in the nose, which makes the smell quite beautiful with time. The weak spot is the taste, not in a bad way, but just mild. Great with food.

La Puerta Syrah

Made in: Andes Famatina Valley, Argentina

Year: 2009

Been cellaring this one for a while (or maybe we just forgot it). Looks like we can no longer get this one at the LCBO, but the bottle is easily recognizable from the past. Anyways, aromas of dark berries, especially cherries with notes of alcohol. Hints of wood seem to come out a little. Lots of berries in the taste with some plums, light sourness from the cherries, some mild tannins creating some tartiness. Even some smokiness. Not one I would cellar again, but still pretty good overall.

Graffigna Centenario Reserve Malbec

imageLCBO#: 230474
Price: $13.95
Made in: San Juan, Argentina
By: Bodega Graffigna
Year: 2013

A nice easy going red wine with any supper. This Argentinian Malbec has aromas of black pepper, plums and hints of leather shoe shine and cherries. The tannins are very soft in this one, but with some nice smooth dryness. Flavours of cherries over the grapes giving a some light sourness with a touch of yeast. Like mentioned, goes well with a good meaty supper and vegetables. Classy label and well worth the price if you are a Malbec fan.

Astica Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2013

20140101-233155.jpgLCBO#: 359083
Price: $7.95
Made in: Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina
By: Bodegas Trapiche
Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon

This blend from Argentina does not smell a lot, but traces of smoked wood, maybe tobacco and leather. Weird for a white wine (Cab Sauvignon anyone ??). Nothing offensive really though. The taste is a little more present with the white grapes, the fruitiness, mild dryness in the finish with light sourness lingering in the aftertaste. Again, nothing wrong here and pretty good for the price. One of those wine we could buy lots for the summer when people come over and you want to serve it on the patio… nice and cool.

Fuzion Chenin-Chardonnay 2013

20140101-232802.jpgLCBO#: 119800
Price: $7.95
Made in: Mendoza, Argentina
By: Fuzion Wines
Varietal: Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay

Fuzion wines are always inexpensive, but always a sure bet. Pours a light golden colour with a fresh pear nose and some light green apples, sugars and alcohol. Pretty close to the same for the flavours. Notes of peach and honeydew as well. The Chardonnay is not too dry, but very well-blended with the Chenin Blanc. Gets a bit too sweet after a while, but still a good summer drinker. Just have it real cold.

Argento Pinot Grigio 2013

20131231-192004.jpgLCBO#: 620492
Price: $9.95
Made in: Mendoza, Argentina
By: Argento Wine Company
Varietal: Pinot Grigio
2013

This Argentinian Pinot Grigio smells quite sweet at first, but not the typical fruitiness of this style. After breathing, it does get pretty close to the aromas of a Pinot Grigio. The taste is pretty good right of the top. Slightly dry, fruity, sweet and with a little sourness in the finish. Very, very drinkable for the price.
