Chandon Brut Classic

Price: $29.85
Made in: California, USA
By: Domaine Chandon

Nice limited edition bottle with the blue stripes and red ribbon. Yeast nose with some sweetness from the grapes to balance things, with hints of sourness. Flavours of the fruit as well, with well-blended sweetness and sourness. The yeast lingers in the finish, giving the almond notes described on the back of the label. Decent dryness, but not as much as suggested on back. Find it a little more on the sweet side, but this makes it easy to drink. We like this one, but more of a treat (for the price).

Jackson-Triggs Sauvignon Blanc

imageLCBO#: 399410
Price: $10.10
Made in: Ontario, Canada
By: Jackson-Triggs Vinters

This Sauvignon Blanc is cellared in Canada from imported and domestic wines. The Proprietors’ Selection is their less expensive, easy-going wines. Not as fruity as most Sauvignon Blanc, but it does get there with time. Woody aromas with light alcohol, smoke hints and the grape fruits. The taste is also fruity, but has some bitterness, dryness. Alcohol and the wood. Very reasonable cheap Sauvignon Blanc, but there is better for the price from Chile, South Africa.

Hungaria Grande Cuvée Brut

imageLCBO#: 619288
Price: $12.40
Made in: Hungary
By: Torley Pezsgopinceszet Kft

Tried this inexpensive Hungarian Sparkling a few years back, and did not mind it for the price. The nose is sweet with some sugar notes over hints of citrus and yeast that come out with time. The taste starts off with a little sweetness, but turns quickly to sourness with the citrus (lemon). Yeast eventually shows up in the aftertaste with a nuttiness lingering. Quite surprising how this one is good for the price. Nothing crazy, but nothing really offensive.

La Cuvée Mythique 2013

imageLCBO#: 426031
Price: $15.95
Made in: Pays d’Oc, France
By: Les Vignerons De La Mediterranee

Bought this one for our annual Halloween party with friends, as the little cape was nice around the bottle, and the orange and black label. Decided to have this one with our leftover cheese and pate from that party, as says good with spicy foods, pork and hard cheeses. We are covered here. Smells pretty, but overly sweet with the red grapes and some sugars. The taste is where we hit a wall. Tasted weak, watery with some metallic notes in the finish. Decided to have without the food after a while, and the flavours became a little better. Still hardly any tannins, but some bite with somewhat dryness. Still, not one we would buy again.
