Smoky Bay

Price: $11.89 (1L)
Made in: Australia

This Australian red wine has a sweet nose from the cherries, plums, with hints of leather, and some alcohol dryness. The taste is sweet as well with all the dark fruits, but watered-down. Decent light dryness in the mouthfeel. Slightly tarty in the finish. For a real cheap wine, that seems to be a blend, it is not too bad. Not a great one though.

Veramonte Sauvignon Blanc

LCBO#: 367748
Price: $6.95
Made in: Casablanca, Chile
By: Alto De Casablanca S.A.
Year: 2015

This Chilean Sauvignon Blanc smells fresh and fruity like most of this style. Aromas of pears and citrus with some decent sweetness. The mouthfeel is crisp with some nice dryness. Flavours of citrus with some light bitterness. A little tarty in the finish. Not bad for the price, easy to sip, but nothing exceptional overall. Lacking a little sweetness/fruitiness.

Hungaria Grande Cuvée Brut

imageLCBO#: 619288
Price: $12.40
Made in: Hungary

Tried this inexpensive Hungarian Sparkling a few years back, and did not mind it for the price. The nose is sweet with some sugar notes over hints of citrus and yeast that come out with time. The taste starts off with a little sweetness, but turns quickly to sourness with the citrus (lemon). Yeast eventually shows up in the aftertaste with a nuttiness lingering. Quite surprising how this one is good for the price. Nothing crazy, but nothing really offensive.

Seaview Sparkling Brut

Varietal: Sparkling White

Always a good-to-go, good price-quality and easy-to-get one for us. The yeast is quite present this time (aroma) at the first pour and in the finish. The nose seems quite sour as well. After breathing, things readjust. Sweet grape nose, well-balanced between the sweetness and sourness for taste. A nice mild dry finish with a little yeast lingering on the tongue. Seems a bit off compared to previous years had, with notes of hazelnuts and coffee and a bit too much yeast remaining. Still, a decent value for the price with Jackson-Triggs Sparkling being one we prefer.
