Jackson-Triggs Reserve Sparkling

LCBO#: 217679
Price: $15.95
Made in: Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario
By: Jackson-Triggs Estate Wines
Year: 2017

5 years ago, we reviewed this sparkling under the name “Jackson-Triggs Méthode Cuve Close 2012”, and this is still a favourite for the price. As consistent as usual. Great bubbles, sparkling away, zapping in the mouth. A beautiful blend of Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir. Loads of well-balanced green apples all over. Just a nice dryness that is not over the top, making this very easy to drink. Again, the yeast is very well taken care of – as in not too tarty.

Bellissima Prosecco Brut

LCBO#: 548164
Price: $24.95
Made in: Veneto, Italy
By: United Spirits Inc

Read something about this bubbly being promoted by Christine Brinkley, but I guess being in Canada never heard about this. An Italian Sparkling with an eye-catching bottle. Aromas of the grapes gives out out fruitiness and mild sourness, with hints of apples and pears. Crisp mouthfeel which does get a little thick and tarty on the tongue. This is where my beef is with this one. Yeast does lingers. Raisin notes in the taste eventually appear. Not one I would have again, especially for the price. Sorry Christine.

LCBO#: 69831
Price: $97.95
Made in: Champagne, France
By: Agave LVMH

ABV: 12%

Celebrating the end of 2018 with this Rosé, thanks to friends sharing this one. Clean pink colour with strawberry nose and hints of cherries and mild alcohol. The mouthfeel is pretty dry. Very mild taste of strawberries and yeast lingering. Some well-blended bitterness. Quite easy to drink with everything nicely balanced.

Mionetto Prosecco Prestige Collection

LCBO#: 483339
Price: $17.00
Made in: Veneto, Italy
By: Henkell & Sohnlein Sektkellereien
ABV: 11%

This Italian Prosecco has mostly fruitiness in the nose with the white grapes and apples. Lots of sweetness blended with hints vanilla. Flavours seems to be mostly on the dried raisins side of things. So, not as sweet. Just fruity. Seems like the raisins take over the apples and grapes in the nose as well. Light sourness in the finish. Nothing offensive, but nothing too prestigious.

Bouvet Crémant de Loire Excellence Brut

LCBO#: 303636
Price: $19.95
Made in: Loire, France
By: Bouvet-Ladubay

This Crémant de Loire is pretty much all apple notes for scent with hints of grape sourness and leather. The taste is also fruity with the apples and grapes. Nicely blended between the sweetness, mild sourness and light dryness. All well-balanced, but nothing crazy outstanding for this French bubbly. There are better Crémant out there for the under twenty dollars range.

Astoria Prosecco DOC

LCBO#: 593855
Price: $15.35
Made in: Italy
By: Astoria Vini

This Italian Prosecco comes in a dark green bottle with lots of gold. The opening on the bottle is quite thick in glass, harder for pouring. Aromas of grapes and apples, mild in fruitiness. The taste has some nice sweetness with apples again, hints of sourness and a crisp mouthfeel. Nothing too special, but goes down nicely if you like something milder.

Segura Viudas Brut Reserva

LCBO#: 216960
Price: $15.75
Made in: Spain
By: Heredad Segura Viudas

A Spanish bubbly with a classy looking green bottle. The first thing you see at first pour is the head seems bigger than most. After it calms down, you can see that the bubbles are bigger size, more like beer carbonation than a sparkling. This does calm down as well and smaller bubbles finally appear. Apple nose with hints of cucumber juice. Flavours are on the sour side, with the apples still present as a base. Very light yeast does linger after all of this. Fairly dry mouthfeel and becomes nice all-around, as the sourness balances itself out.

Santi Nello Botter Prosecco

SAQ#: 10540730
Price: $15.55
Made in: Veneto, Italy
By: Casa Vinicola Botter Carlo & C. SPA

This Italian sparkling gives out lots of apple notes. Fruity aromas of apples. Not too sweet, not too sour with hints of pears. The taste starts off with apple sweetness, very light honey in the background and a nice sour finish does appear slowly as the sips go on. The yeast is nicely mild in here. Seems like nothing too special at first, but does show character as it goes. If you love apples, this one is for you.

Bernard-Massard Brut Cuvée de l’Écusson

LCBO#: 970970
Price: $19.95
Vintages
Made in: Luxembourg
By: Bernard-Massard S.A.

A Luxembourg Sparkling with a creamier head than most. Yeasty nose with mostly apples. Dry enough mouthfeel, but mostly crisp. Again, apples and yeast in the taste, all on the mild side. Light yeast lingers. Hints of bananas. Nothing really offensive, unless you prefer hardly no yeast. Easy to drink overall and presentable. Still, the Andrea Biasiotto Extra Dry Prosecco we just had a week ago, was way better and less expensive, all in the Vintages.

Apples, apples, apples. Yes, this beautiful Italian sparkling is full of apples. Everywhere. And there is nothing wrong with this. Yellow apples in the nose with the pear hints. These apples are also in the taste. A little yeast on the tongue in the finish, but nicely balanced. A decent dryness in the mouthfeel. Crisp and refreshing. All-around well done. Quite like this one… and my cat loved liking the chilled bottle.
