Domaine de Vaugondy Vouvray

Price: $17.95
Made in: Loire, France

This French Sparkling is 100% Chenin blanc grapes. Lots of yeast and apples in the nose at first. Then, some orange notes appear. We do not see the anise listed in the description, but maybe it comes out as it warms up. Pretty much the same for the taste with the yeast better balanced. Nicely sweet, sour and dry mouthfeel, and not syrupy. Gets better with time, but much better out there with less yeast.

Carpenè Malvolti 1868 Brut Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore

imageLCBO#: 727438
Price: $16.75
Made in: Conegliano, Italy
By: Carpenè Malvolti S.P.A.

The white head of this Italian Sparkling has longer retention than most. Yeasty nose with some sweetness and sourness from the grapes. Hints of honeydew after breathing and some burnt fruit skin. The taste is well-balanced with the fruits (grapes, apples), yeast (tartiness), sourness (citrus), sweetness and some decent dry mouthfeel. A good above-average Sparkling with just a little too much yeast lingering in the aftertaste, for our likings. Better for the price out there, but still good.

Elaboradores Bohigas Brut Cava

imageLCBO#: 401216
Price: $17.95
Made in: Penedès, Spain
By: CFermi Bohigas S.A.

This Spanish Sparkling gives out aromas of yeast at first, but then white grape fruitiness comes out and some sourness happens. Creamy white head that leaves a little on top of the wine. The taste has the sourness as well in the start with the grapes in the finish. The sweetness is well-balanced everywhere. The yeast is well-blended in this. Very easy to drink bubbly that is good all over for any situation.

Graffigna Centenario Reserve Malbec

imageLCBO#: 230474
Price: $13.95
Made in: San Juan, Argentina
By: Bodega Graffigna
Year: 2013

A nice easy going red wine with any supper. This Argentinian Malbec has aromas of black pepper, plums and hints of leather shoe shine and cherries. The tannins are very soft in this one, but with some nice smooth dryness. Flavours of cherries over the grapes giving a some light sourness with a touch of yeast. Like mentioned, goes well with a good meaty supper and vegetables. Classy label and well worth the price if you are a Malbec fan.
