Kittling Ridge Icewine and Brandy

This Canadian blend of Icewine and Brandy is always a nice dessert treat for us, as the Brandy (as sweet as it is) takes away from the over sweet Icewine. Wood notes at first scent, then lots if caramel. Citrus and alcohol hints come out eventually. Sweet taste, but the mouthfeel is not as syrupy as Icewine alone. Slight dryness in the finish with some light bitterness balancing the sweetness. Mild nuttiness in the aftertaste. A nice treat overall that is good for a sweetooth, but not overly sweet.

Reif Vidal Icewine

Dark golden-amber colour with rich sweet nose and light burnt notes. Nice syrupy mouthfeel, but not overly sweet. Honey taste with a sugary white grape taste. Quite nice overall as it is not as sweet as most of this style. Easy to drink more of this Icewine.

Jackson-Triggs Cabernet Franc Icewine

Made in: Ontario, Canada
By: Jackson-Triggs winery

Got this gem at the Jackson-Triggs winery on our tour there. This 2007 red Icewine shows a clean pink-red colour, looking like clear strawberry juice. Sweet aromas of berries and mild honey. The mouthfeel is a nicely coated tongues, but not too syrupy. The same is found in the taste as the scent. Sweet, but not too much to kill the flavours of strawberries and light honey, with notes of plums. This is quite the dessert wine, and quite a treat. Highly recommended.

Vice Vodka Icewine Martini

LCBO#: 158212
Price: $34.95
Made in: Vineland, Ontario

After visiting the Niagara region, we had tried getting these vodka Icewine martinis, but had no success. We therefor found this pre made version at the LCBO. This desertini is a great Canadian alcoholic delight. Pours a nice clean light golden colour. Aromas of sweet white grapes. It feels like this will be as sweet and syrupy as icewine alone. Nope. Very well-blended to retain the icewine taste, but not too thick to make this easy to drink. The vodka is not present at first, but it does show up after a while. Being five times distilled, it is quite smooth. A very nice desert martini which I would serve to anyone to show a nice side of Canada.
