Hungaria Grande Cuvée Brut

imageLCBO#: 619288
Price: $12.40
Made in: Hungary

Tried this inexpensive Hungarian Sparkling a few years back, and did not mind it for the price. The nose is sweet with some sugar notes over hints of citrus and yeast that come out with time. The taste starts off with a little sweetness, but turns quickly to sourness with the citrus (lemon). Yeast eventually shows up in the aftertaste with a nuttiness lingering. Quite surprising how this one is good for the price. Nothing crazy, but nothing really offensive.

Prevedello Asolo Prosecco Superiore Extra Dry

imageLCBO#: 262881
Price: $16.95
Made in: Veneto, Italy
By: Prevedello

This Italian Bubbly starts off with yeast and orange peel aromas. After breathing, it gets balanced with hints of tropical fruits, vanilla and sugars. The flavours are close to this as well. Feels like it will be a sour one, but because Extra Dry, the finish is quick. Some soft sweetness and yeast lingers a little. Not a bad Extra Dry Sparkling, just lacking a little finesse.

Carpenè Malvolti 1868 Brut Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore

The white head of this Italian Sparkling has longer retention than most. Yeasty nose with some sweetness and sourness from the grapes. Hints of honeydew after breathing and some burnt fruit skin. The taste is well-balanced with the fruits (grapes, apples), yeast (tartiness), sourness (citrus), sweetness and some decent dry mouthfeel. A good above-average Sparkling with just a little too much yeast lingering in the aftertaste, for our likings. Better for the price out there, but still good.

Viticoltori Acquesi Brachetto d’Acqui

imageLCBO#: 375667
Price: $12.90
Made in: Piedmont, Italy

This Italian Sparkling Rosé is a low alcohol one at 6.5%, so this mean this will be a sweet one. The first big smell that comes out of this is red wine vinegar. This calms down after breathing letting the prune, apples and other berries show up. These same fruits are found in the taste. The good thing here is that the sweetness does not linger, as in not syrupy. The finish is pretty quick, so the fruit seems real, not like a cheap one with sugars. If you are into these sweet bubbly rosé, this one is actually nice… especially for the price.

Torresella Prosecco

Price: $14.95
Made in: Veneto, Italy
By: Cantine Torresella S.P.A.

This Italian Prosecco Sparkling smells yeasty at first pour. Mild notes of apple appear with time. The taste is a little stronger with some sourness, some sweetness and some fruitiness. The alcohol is felt as well, so not really well-blended and hints that are metallic from the water. The bubble are pretty big for a bubbly, fizzing like some pop instead of the nice tiny bubble carbonation it should be. Nutty yeast lingers on the tongue. Nothing too off-balanced, but still lacking a bit in this department.
