Barrel Heist Bourbon Barrel Aged Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Price: $6.99
Made in: Lodi, California
By: Barrel Heist Wines
ABV: 14.8%
Year: 2017

Found at Trader Joe’s in Burlington. Aged 4 months in Bourbon barrels, this Cabernet Sauvignon has a beautiful nose of dark fruits with plums, dried prunes, hints of cherries, vanilla, smokey wood and leather. Lots of tannins in the mouthfeel with some nice dryness. The taste shows a little caramel notes and the finish is very short. Some yeast lingers on the tongue. Some bitterness does appear with time, which helps a little. Other than that, smells nicely, but expecting much more from this aging.

Amarula Vanilla Spice Cream Liquor

LCBO#: 635615
Price: $22.55
Made in: South Africa
By: Southern Liqueur Co.
ABV: 15.5%

A nice touch on the already delicious Amaruly Cream Liquor – with Madagascan vanilla and African ginger. Already our second bottle of this, as it mixes very well with coffee. The spices are so nice. It does have a little egg nog smell once it breath out. The spices and sweet creaminess are well-blended together. Again, the same for flavours with the vanilla base that is quite smooth. Great on the rocks or like mentioned – with coffee. We really, really like this one. Love the original one, but this is delicious and works well for fall. Hope this one stays.

Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla Gin

LCBO#: 573956
Price: $30.05
Made in: United Kingdom
By: Diageo PLC
ABV: 41.3%

Our first review on these Tanqueray gin-based spirit. This is one is with notes of bittersweet Seville oranges. Sugar is found in this one, as well as artificial colouring. The gin alcohol nose with the juniper is well-blended with these marmalade oranges. The taste is fairly sweet with the bitterness in the background. Maybe, more fruity than sugar sweet. The gin base is still present and nice. This one is quite easy to drink alone, even though they also recommend tonic.

Mott’s Clamato Caesar Gin & Cucumber

LCBO#: 649236
Price: $2.95
Made in: USA
By: Mott’s Canada
Can size: 458ml
Limited Edition

Interesting concoction with the tomato base and clam juice (which is actually dried clam broth in this one). The gin is very subtle, so no burn or different taste for this Caesar. Spicy nose with the spices used in here (some red chili peppers). The cucumber shows up in the taste, making it quite refreshing on this hot day. The purée from this vegetable does linger on the tongue. Garlic, anchovies and molasses are added as well blending things. This is quite good if you like cucumber drinks. Would definitely have every summer.

Tawse Spark Limestone Ridge Organic Sparkling Riesling

LCBO#: 370361
Price: $20.95
Made in: Tawse Winery
By: Ontario, Canada
Year: 2016

This Ontarian sparkling gives out apple aromas with pear hints and lime. This last one maybe is the culprit for making the taste quite sour. This gives the mouthfeel a refreshing and crisp feel. A nice blend from the grapes giving apple notes. Light yeast lingers on the tongue. A special sour sparkling, but a nice all-around one. And the more and more I have this one, the more and more I am falling in love with it. So good !! Must put this on the list to visit when we go down visiting the Niagara region.

Bellissima Prosecco Brut

LCBO#: 548164
Price: $24.95
Made in: Veneto, Italy
By: United Spirits Inc

Read something about this bubbly being promoted by Christine Brinkley, but I guess being in Canada never heard about this. An Italian Sparkling with an eye-catching bottle. Aromas of the grapes gives out out fruitiness and mild sourness, with hints of apples and pears. Crisp mouthfeel which does get a little thick and tarty on the tongue. This is where my beef is with this one. Yeast does lingers. Raisin notes in the taste eventually appear. Not one I would have again, especially for the price. Sorry Christine.

Baileys Salted Caramel

LCBO#: 400259
Price: $31.05
Made in: Ireland
By: Agave R & A Bailey & Co Ltd
ABV: 17%

Salted Caramel seems to be popular nowadays, as I see it in lots of stuff, even in beers. Still, pretty much the same aromas of milky butterscotch. The taste is where is the butterscotch slightly turns on the caramel side. The saltiness though is quite mild, if there at all. Very, very close to the original Baileys, so wish it had more salt added to it. Was a nice try, but not sure we will see this one again.
