Thorn-Clarke Pinot Noir Chardonnay NV Brut Reserve

imageLCBO#: 280925
Price: $16.95
Made in: South Australia, Australia
By: Az. Thorne-Clarke Wines

This Australian Sparkling comes in a nicely labeled bottle. It seems to have a pink hue. The nose has this Pinot Noir red grape aroma giving some sweetness with some light hints of smokiness (after breathing). The taste starts off on a sour note with a yeast finish. A big yeasty end. Not much other than that. Smells nice, but the taste is not happening. Too much yeast and not much else.

Cono Sur Sparkling Pinot Noir Rosé

imageLCBO#: 365205
Price: $13.90
Made in: Pirque, Chile
By: Vina Tocornal

This Chilean Sparkling Rose is made 100% of Pinot Noir. It does not seem to have much carbonation, from the cap popping to the bigger bubbles in the wine. Mild berry aromas with some sourness and sweetness, but yes, mild overall. The taste starts off sweet with honey notes and some light sourness and dryness. The yeast is pretty well hidden, maybe affecting the carbonation, but some is felt when gases are released. Again, like most Cono Sur products, inexpensive and quite easy to drink. Nothing fancy, but nothing bad for the price.

Codorniu Seleccion Raventos Rosé

imageLCBO#: 370080
Price: $15.95
Made in: Sant Sadurni D’Anoia, Spain
By: Codorniu S.A.
Varietal: Pinot Noir

This Spanish Sparkling Rosé has strawberry aromas with some yeast and notes of vinegar, cherries and plum. Unfortunately, the taste is not as complete. The strawberries are milder with some light sourness in the middle and the yeast showing in the finish. Hints of nuts linger. The mouth is a little too watery and because of this, the yeast is a little too present. Nothing too offensive, but not one we would buy again (better out there for the price).

G. Marquis Silver Line Pinot Noir 2012

imageLCBO#: 258673
Price: $19.95
Made in: Ontario, Canada
By: Magnotta Winery

This Ontarian Pinot Noir is a deep ruby red, but clear overall. Berry aromas with nice notes of cherries. After breathing, mild leather comes out and beautiful spices. The berries are quite present in the taste, with some caramel hints and tarty yeast lingers. Was good alone, but was great with food with spices and herbs. Some nice dryness, but not too crazy with very mild tannins. Definitely worth trying if you can you find it. In the Vintages at the LCBO.

Codorniu Pinot Noir Rosé Cava

cordoniuLCBO#: 665372
Price: $17.95
Made in: Spain
By: Codorniu S.A.
Varietal: Pinot Noir

This sparkling wine shows a rosé side and is done with the traditional method. Mild sweet-sour nose with hints of raspberries and lime. The taste is even milder. More on the sour side than on the sweet one. Not much in ways of fruity notes. As it warms up a bit, light strawberries come out. Feels like a big juicy one that you bite into thinking it is going to be sweet, but no, it is bitter and not pleasant. Very light yeast in the aftertaste. Kind of a letdown.

Cono Sur Pinot Noir 2010

Price: $10.95
Made in: Chile
By: Vina Tocornal
2010

At first pour, this Pinot Noir seemed watery and dull. Then food, then breathing. Leather notes, dryer mouthfeel, hints of strawberries and cherrie for taste, giving out some slight sourness and earth tones. Mild tobacco in the finish. Starts off weak but does get much better. Like most Cono Sur, always a great buy.

Flame Lily Pinot Noir

Made in: Napa and St.Helena, CA
By: Flame Lily Wines
Varietal: Pinot Noir

Beautiful aromas of cherries, raspberries and hints of molasses, tobacco and wood in the background. Unfortunately, that is where it stops. The taste is standard, mild with the red grape juices. Almost watery. Then, the aftertaste that lingers is like the wine was stored in a rusty metal pipe, instead of a barrel. The grapes are alright, but overall, not one we would have again.
