Always nice to try a new Apothic wine and this one is found in Canada. Nice label, dark which always appeals to us and even the cork is black with the Apothic logo in white, on it. The wine is a real dark red. Lots of berries in the nose with some hints of leather and burnt wood. The mouthfeel is pretty nice some decent tannins, dryness in the finish. Good mild sweetness, but overall some bitterness with the blueberries, blackberries and light sourness in the end. Was expecting to be too rich and full of vanilla but no. This is quite a decent mass-produced wine.

La Cuvée Mythique 2013

imageLCBO#: 426031
Price: $15.95
Made in: Pays d’Oc, France
By: Les Vignerons De La Mediterranee

Bought this one for our annual Halloween party with friends, as the little cape was nice around the bottle, and the orange and black label. Decided to have this one with our leftover cheese and pate from that party, as says good with spicy foods, pork and hard cheeses. We are covered here. Smells pretty, but overly sweet with the red grapes and some sugars. The taste is where we hit a wall. Tasted weak, watery with some metallic notes in the finish. Decided to have without the food after a while, and the flavours became a little better. Still hardly any tannins, but some bite with somewhat dryness. Still, not one we would buy again.

Tierra Sur Sparkling Wine Brut

Price: $17.95
Made in: Bío Bío Valley, Chile
By: Santa Alicia S.A.

A Chilean Sparkling with a nice looking bottle (classy label). Loads of orange notes in the nose with some sugars and mild yeast that come out eventually. Very well-balanced taste with some sourness, some dryness, not too much sweetness (except on the lips) and light yeast in the aftertaste. Not syrupy at all, so goes down very well. The yeast does get slightly stronger with time adding hints of nuts, tart. Pricier than most Chilean wines, but a great all-around Sparkling (worth the price).

Peninsula Ridge Cabernet Merlot VQA

Price: $14.95
Made in: Ontario, Canada
By: Peninsula Ridge Estates Winery
Year: 2013

This red wine blend is composed of Cabernet and Merlot, and it shows in the red colour… being not as dark like Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet notes are present with tobacco and leather, but much milder. Lots of berries all around. Raspberries, cherries, blackberries, etc. Medium-light tannins and dryness. Goes down well and is nice with food. A pretty good blended red wine with a classy look.

Graffigna Centenario Reserve Malbec

Price: $13.95
Made in: San Juan, Argentina
By: Bodega Graffigna
Year: 2013

A nice easy going red wine with any supper. This Argentinian Malbec has aromas of black pepper, plums and hints of leather shoe shine and cherries. The tannins are very soft in this one, but with some nice smooth dryness. Flavours of cherries over the grapes giving a some light sourness with a touch of yeast. Like mentioned, goes well with a good meaty supper and vegetables. Classy label and well worth the price if you are a Malbec fan.

Beaulieu Vineyard Coastal Estates Cabernet Sauvignon

imageLCBO#: 569871
Price: $10.95
Made in: California, USA
By: Beaulieu Vineyard
Year: 2013

This Californian Cabernet Sauvignon smells like one, but a little milder with leather and berry notes. The taste is even milder, but not so watery. Some decent tannins in the finish. The grapes are felt, but not the typical punch in the mouth we are use to with this grape. Also, some vanilla is present, so not your typical Cab Sauvignon, but a decent red wine for the price to have with food.

Luis Felipe Edwards Reserva Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon

imageLCBO#: 308189
Price: $13.90
Made in: Colchagua Valley, Chile
By: Vina Luis Felipe Edwards Ltda.
Year: 2013

Quite a classy looking label from a Chile winemaker. Aromas of berries from the Shiraz at first, then twirl the glass and out comes the Cabernet Sauvignon notes with leather and tobacco. The taste is a little milder, kind of watered-down, but still decent with more of the shiraz characteristics (plums, cherries). What helps is the vanilla from the oak ageing. Good enough tannins in the finish with a dryness that seems to get sharper as we progress. A good red wine, but just lacking a little something. A little more Sauvignon punch.
