Tawse Spark Limestone Ridge Organic Sparkling Riesling

LCBO#: 370361
Price: $20.95
Made in: Tawse Winery
By: Ontario, Canada
Year: 2016

This Ontarian sparkling gives out apple aromas with pear hints and lime. This last one maybe is the culprit for making the taste quite sour. This gives the mouthfeel a refreshing and crisp feel. A nice blend from the grapes giving apple notes. Light yeast lingers on the tongue. A special sour sparkling, but a nice all-around one. And the more and more I have this one, the more and more I am falling in love with it. So good !! Must put this on the list to visit when we go down visiting the Niagara region.

Bernard-Massard Brut Cuvée de l’Écusson

LCBO#: 970970
Price: $19.95
Vintages
Made in: Luxembourg
By: Bernard-Massard S.A.

A Luxembourg Sparkling with a creamier head than most. Yeasty nose with mostly apples. Dry enough mouthfeel, but mostly crisp. Again, apples and yeast in the taste, all on the mild side. Light yeast lingers. Hints of bananas. Nothing really offensive, unless you prefer hardly no yeast. Easy to drink overall and presentable. Still, the Andrea Biasiotto Extra Dry Prosecco we just had a week ago, was way better and less expensive, all in the Vintages.

Inniskillin Late Autumn Riesling

LCBO#: 219543
Price: $14.25
Made in: Ontario, Canada
By: Inniskillin Estate Wines
Year: 2015

Purchased a 2013 bottle a few years back and quite liked it. This 2015 one is fruity smelling with notes of apples, honey and some tropical light fruits. The taste is sweet, but not syrupy. These grapes flavours are refreshing and wet at first, going into some nice medium dry finish with very light alcohol. The raisins then linger on the tongue. This is one I don’t mind having every year heading for winter. A good comfort wine. P.S. The 2013 bottle I kept did not cellar well.

Forward Pinot Grigio Riesling

LCBO#: 427344
Price: $11.45
Made in: Ontario, Canada
By: Pelee Island Vineyard Inc.
Year: 2015

This Canadian blend of Pinot Grigio and Riesling gives out pear notes in the nose at first. Citrus does eventually appear with some sour hints and decent fruity sweetness. The mouthfeel has a nice dryness with the citrus flavours. A little too much yeast lingers in the end, but overall – this is quite drinkable for the price.

Hinterland Whitecap 2013

Thanks to my friend Chris for this one. This Ontarian Sparkling has a longer lasting creamy-bubbly head than most. It has a very sweet nose with loads of apples and notes of oranges. The taste is not as sweet, but more on the sour side with lots of citrus. The oranges are still present with hints of honey and pears, but again, not too sweet, definitely not syrupy. This sparkling has bite, which is quite nice and is different from most Sparkling wines. The mouthfeel being on the wet side helps out with all the fruit to have a nice finish.

A German Sparkling made of Riesling… nice ! Beautiful nose that is slightly on the sweet-side, but without too much yeast and with a nice dry grape feel. The mouthfeel is well-balanced between starting thick and creamy, but finishing with a good dryness. The taste is like the aromas, blending the sweetness at first with the decent dryness of the grapes. Very mild yeast lingers. Quite nice overall with the well-hidden yeast and the mix of sweetness, without being syrupy, and the dryness.

Amalaya “Esperanza por un Milagro” White Wine

20131216-195753.jpgLCBO#: 270470
Price: $10.95
Made in: Calchaqui Valley, Salta, Argentina
By: Hess Family Estates
Varietal: Torrontes and Riesling
2012

This Argentinian white wine is composed of 85% Torrontes and 15% Riesling (written on label – 90/10 on site). Beautiful fresh fruity and floral aromas with exotic fruits (pears as well) and grassy herbs (even slight mint). The taste is definitely milder. Way milder. Notes of sweetness and citrus (getting better as it breathes) with some alcohol. Much better with food, and could be a good summer wine when you want something lighter, refreshing and fruity. Well worth the price.
