Tierra Sur Sparkling Wine Brut

imageLCBO#: 404103
Price: $17.95
Made in: Bío Bío Valley, Chile
By: Santa Alicia S.A.

A Chilean Sparkling with a nice looking bottle (classy label). Loads of orange notes in the nose with some sugars and mild yeast that come out eventually. Very well-balanced taste with some sourness, some dryness, not too much sweetness (except on the lips) and light yeast in the aftertaste. Not syrupy at all, so goes down very well. The yeast does get slightly stronger with time adding hints of nuts, tart. Pricier than most Chilean wines, but a great all-around Sparkling (worth the price).

Graffigna Centenario Reserve Malbec

imageLCBO#: 230474
Price: $13.95
Made in: San Juan, Argentina
By: Bodega Graffigna
Year: 2013

A nice easy going red wine with any supper. This Argentinian Malbec has aromas of black pepper, plums and hints of leather shoe shine and cherries. The tannins are very soft in this one, but with some nice smooth dryness. Flavours of cherries over the grapes giving a some light sourness with a touch of yeast. Like mentioned, goes well with a good meaty supper and vegetables. Classy label and well worth the price if you are a Malbec fan.

Luis Felipe Edwards Reserva Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon

imageLCBO#: 308189
Price: $13.90
Made in: Colchagua Valley, Chile
By: Vina Luis Felipe Edwards Ltda.
Year: 2013

Quite a classy looking label from a Chile winemaker. Aromas of berries from the Shiraz at first, then twirl the glass and out comes the Cabernet Sauvignon notes with leather and tobacco. The taste is a little milder, kind of watered-down, but still decent with more of the shiraz characteristics (plums, cherries). What helps is the vanilla from the oak ageing. Good enough tannins in the finish with a dryness that seems to get sharper as we progress. A good red wine, but just lacking a little something. A little more Sauvignon punch.

Santa Carolina Petit Verdot Gran Reserva

Price: $15.95
Made in: Rapel Valley, Chile
By: Vina Santa Carolina

We are used to Santa Carolina as inexpensive good easy-drinking wines, so was quite surprised to find this one in the Vintages at the LCBO. Beautiful aromas of red grapes with a smooth sweetness to it. Very light hints of leather. The taste is a little milder than the nose. Light tannins creating a bit of dryness with the grapes. A bit of bite in the finish with the alcohol (on the bitter side) but a watery aftertaste as the short end. Notes of cherries and yeast.
