KWV The Vinecrafter Chenin Blanc

LCBO#: 18689
Price: $9.95
Made in: Western Cape, South Africa
By: KWV
Year: 2016

We always love to find a new KWV product at the LCBO, as it is always inexpensive, but worth so much more. This Chenin Blanc smells sweet with some tropical fruit hints. The grapes are sweet as well in the taste, but not syrupy at all, with some mild sourness. Nice crisp mouthfeel with a decent dry finish. Very easy to drink as always. Another great KWV product that helps the wallet and has no cheap problems.

When we had the 2009 edition last year, it was full of oranges. It was good, but not great. This 2010 edition does not have the loads of oranges and seems better balanced. Citrus and honey in both aromas and taste. The nose also has sweet yeast, probably sugars and nice dry grapes, hints of apples. The mouth has a nice blend of sweet, sour and a dry bite. Much better balanced for sure than the last edition. Nothing too complex, but well worth the price.

Reviewed this one last year, but this is the 2010 edition and seems to be better rated. Also, we are KWB fans, so why not ? Looks like the oranges are better blended this year with the yeast that gives out hints of vanilla and some dry grapes sweetness. A little sourness in the flavours with the grapes, a dry middle and some light yeast lingering adding some nuttiness. We would have to say that this is better balanced than last year’s version. Good for the price !

Nederburg Winemaster’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Debating between two inexpensive reds tonight (this one and the Radio Boka) found at the LCBO, and on special. Which one to buy more of to have on hand for the next year. This one being a Cabernet Sauvignon starts off with some tobacco scents and hints of leather over the red grapes. After breathing, this calms down and plums come out. This is the same for the taste. Decent sweetness with a little dryness in the finish. Both wines we will get more for the price, but this one is a notch up in ways of better wines. Will get even more of this one.

Loving the KWV products at the LCBO (for price/quality), we decided to make this one our first fortified wine review. Aromas of red grapes, sugar sweetness, alcohol and hints of tobacco. The taste is quite sweet as well with the red juices, notes of caramel and other fruits. This one was quite good with cheeses, pâtés and bitter chocolates. It is nothing too crazy, and quite sweet overall, but worth the money. Recommended for LBV port drinkers who do not want to spend a good $20.

Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon
2009

We love the entry-level wines from this winery, so this one at double the price has high expectations. Great full nose of berries (blackberries, cherries) with hints of vanilla. Beautiful mild tannins with the same notes found in the aromas. A very well-blended, easy drinking Cabernet Sauvignon with light vanilla from the French oak barrel.
