Graffigna Centenario Reserve Malbec

Price: $13.95
Made in: San Juan, Argentina
By: Bodega Graffigna
Year: 2013

A nice easy going red wine with any supper. This Argentinian Malbec has aromas of black pepper, plums and hints of leather shoe shine and cherries. The tannins are very soft in this one, but with some nice smooth dryness. Flavours of cherries over the grapes giving a some light sourness with a touch of yeast. Like mentioned, goes well with a good meaty supper and vegetables. Classy label and well worth the price if you are a Malbec fan.

Osbourne Solaz Tempranillo Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

imageLCBO#: 610188
Price: $11.45
Made in: Tolado, Spain
By: Osbourne Selección S.A.U.
Varietal: Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon

This inexpensive Spanish red wine is a blend of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, but don’t let the price fool you. Beautiful rich nose with cherries and oak vanilla, all helped with some sugars. Most times with these wines, you have nice aromas but weak taste. Not this one. Good berry flavours with strawberries and cherries. The Cabernet Sauvignon is felt with some mild leather and tobacco. Alright, the nose might be candied, but the taste is not. All together, this wine is quite nice for the price.

This Spanish Sparkling is composed of 10% Chardonnay, 30% Macabeo, 30% Xarel and 30% Parellada. Yeast nose with citrus notes. The taste starts off with sourness, but cuts short showing a little sweetness from the fruit. Not much lingers, but gets better with every sip. Eventual yeast shows up in the aftertaste. Then, later hints of apples. Decent dryness in the mouthfeel. A pretty good Sparkling that I would not shy away from bringing this to a friend’s supper.

Astica Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2013

Price: $7.95
Made in: Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina
By: Bodegas Trapiche
Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon

This blend from Argentina does not smell a lot, but traces of smoked wood, maybe tobacco and leather. Weird for a white wine (Cab Sauvignon anyone ??). Nothing offensive really though. The taste is a little more present with the white grapes, the fruitiness, mild dryness in the finish with light sourness lingering in the aftertaste. Again, nothing wrong here and pretty good for the price. One of those wine we could buy lots for the summer when people come over and you want to serve it on the patio… nice and cool.

Big creamy white head that has better retention than most sparkling. Apple scent at first pour, but soft yeast eventually makes it way out. Same for the taste, with a little citrus sourness in the background. Sweetness balances everything in the aromas and flavours. Mild yeast lingers in the aftertaste. Notes of raisins and alcohol appears in the nose, as it warms up. Nothing offensive and pretty decent for those who like apples.
