Jané Ventura Reserva de la Musica Brut Nature

Year: 2010

The head of this Spanish Sparkling is a little more creamy than most, staying a little longer. Mostly apples in the nose with some hints of sugars and yeast. Overall pretty sweet, fruity, but the taste has something else to tell. More on the sour side with the light sugars appearing in the finish. Some decent bitterness balances this and the yeast lingers in the aftertaste, living a mild nutty note on the tongue. Not bad, but was expecting much better. Not sure if past its prime.

Year: 2010

When we had the 2009 edition last year, it was full of oranges. It was good, but not great. This 2010 edition does not have the loads of oranges and seems better balanced. Citrus and honey in both aromas and taste. The nose also has sweet yeast, probably sugars and nice dry grapes, hints of apples. The mouth has a nice blend of sweet, sour and a dry bite. Much better balanced for sure than the last edition. Nothing too complex, but well worth the price.

Year: 2010

Reviewed this one last year, but this is the 2010 edition and seems to be better rated. Also, we are KWB fans, so why not ? Looks like the oranges are better blended this year with the yeast that gives out hints of vanilla and some dry grapes sweetness. A little sourness in the flavours with the grapes, a dry middle and some light yeast lingering adding some nuttiness. We would have to say that this is better balanced than last year’s version. Good for the price !

Deeper in colour than most wines with some red-violet. Mild leather-tobacco aromas with some spicy dark fruits. The mouthfeel is kind of dry, with some very light tannins. Again, some nice spicy dark fruits with dates, raisins and mild berries. Goes down easily, but yet packs some good fruity and spicy punch.

This blended South African wine has 29% Shiraz, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Grenache, 11% Merlot, 11% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. It’s also aged in oak barrels for 18 months. A very well-blended nose of cherries, leather, smoked meats, alcohol and red grapes. Mild dry mouthfeel with nice tannins in the finish. Same flavours found in the aromas, but a little milder. Quite a nice blended red wine with lots to offer, and worth the price for a table wine that is ready to drink.

Flame Lily Pinot Noir

Varietal: Pinot Noir

Beautiful aromas of cherries, raspberries and hints of molasses, tobacco and wood in the background. Unfortunately, that is where it stops. The taste is standard, mild with the red grape juices. Almost watery. Then, the aftertaste that lingers is like the wine was stored in a rusty metal pipe, instead of a barrel. The grapes are alright, but overall, not one we would have again.
